Sick and Help?
October 2, 2007 — Tammy TakahashiSo, I’ve been sick for a few days with a sinus infection and some virus thing that has wiped me out.
I keep thinking of blogging, but every time I come up with something to write about, I fall asleep and forget what it was.
So, I need your help. I’ve been meaning to watch this preview, but haven’t been able to get around to it, being sick and all. Not to mention that I’m not really an audio/visual person - even when I’m not sick. Have any of you watched it? Should I make the time to watch it? What’s your take on the preview?

I checked it out, and watched the trailer. It looked very interesting to me. I’d love to watch the movie, but I don’t know where I can see it. Will definitely be on the lookout.
Anyway, the exchange between the (main) character and another male as they were riding in a car summs up for me an unspoken paradox inherent in “schooling” as I experienced it as a student and parent.
“What do you teach?”
“I teach US History.”
“So, you teach democracy in an authoritarian setting?”
I’m 39, and only now beginning to shake off the heavy weight of my own indoctrination in the fiction passing for democracy in America. Anyway, I enjoy your blog, and would suggest/ask you check out at least the trailer and share your thoughts.

I’m sorry to hear you haven’t been well, Tammy! It seems that some tired and achy virus has been making the rounds among a lot of people I know. A sinus infection too? You deserve kudos for even turning the computer on.

It seems like a very interesting movie. I especially like how the alternativ school is based off of the Sudbery Vally School. I’d watch it.
